Privacy Policy

The IKIGAI Corporation (a trading name of Be The Change Consulting Pty Ltd) — Last updated: 23 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data The IKIGAI Corporation ("we", "us", "our") collects through ikigai-corporation.com, why we collect it, how we protect it, and what rights you have over it. We are committed to complying with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and, for visitors in the European Union and United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

This policy is written in plain language rather than dense legal text. If anything is unclear, contact us using the details at the end of this page.

Who we are

The IKIGAI Corporation is the trading name under which Be The Change Consulting Pty Ltd offers IKIGAI-based assessments, workshops, and consulting services for individuals and organisations. We are based in Cape Town, South Africa, with an additional office in Vienna, Austria. For the purposes of POPIA and GDPR, Be The Change Consulting Pty Ltd is the "responsible party" / "data controller" for personal information collected through this website.

What data we collect, and why

We only collect the data needed to deliver the specific service you've asked for. Depending on how you use the site, this may include the following.

General enquiries (contact form). If you use the contact form on our homepage, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message, so we can reply to you.

Assessment purchases (Plans & Pricing page). If you buy a Leadership, Business, or Full Assessment, our checkout is processed directly by Wix's payment system (Wix Payments/Stripe). We do not see or store your card details — Wix's payment processor handles that under its own PCI-compliant systems. We do receive your name and email address to confirm your order and to send you a confirmation email containing your unique access code for the external assessment tool.

Home Office Test. Taking the Home Office Test does not require you to identify yourself. We do not ask for your name, gender, company size, or country, and your answers to the 20 test questions are processed to calculate your personal Home Office Type without any of that information. If you would like your result sent to you, you can optionally tick a box to provide your email address — we only collect an email address if you choose to receive your result this way; if you don't tick the box, no email address is captured at all. Where an email address is provided, it and the corresponding test responses are stored in a secure, access-restricted Google Sheet used only by The IKIGAI Corporation to run the scoring calculation and deliver your result — they are not sold, shared with advertisers, or used for any purpose beyond that and, in aggregate and anonymised form, improving the test itself. This is a deliberate choice: in line with the data minimisation principle under GDPR and the "minimality" condition under POPIA, we only ask for what we actually need.

Cookies and site analytics. Like most websites, ikigai-corporation.com uses cookies provided by our website platform, Wix, for core site functionality (such as remembering your language or session) and for basic, aggregated visitor analytics (such as how many people visit a page). We may also use advertising cookies on some pages, including the Home Office Test page, now or in the future, to display relevant advertising and measure its performance. See "Cookies" below for more detail.

We do not knowingly collect any special category data (such as health information, political opinions, or religious beliefs) through this website.

How we use your data

We use the personal data described above only to respond to enquiries you send us; process assessment purchases and deliver the access code and instructions you need to complete your assessment; calculate and deliver your Home Office Test result; understand, in aggregate, how visitors use our site so we can improve it; and send you information about our services, but only if you have actively opted in to receive it, and you can withdraw that consent at any time (see "Marketing" below).

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you. The IKIGAI / Home Office Type "results" are informational and developmental in nature, not automated decisions about you.

Legal basis for processing

Under GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases: your consent (for example, when you choose to take the Home Office Test or opt in to marketing), the necessity of processing to perform a contract with you (for example, processing an assessment purchase), and our legitimate interests in operating and improving the website (for example, basic site analytics), balanced against your rights.

Under POPIA, we process your personal information with your consent, or where necessary to conclude or perform a contract with you, or where processing is required to pursue our legitimate interests as a business, always in a manner that does not override your own rights and interests.

Where and how long we store your data

Your data is stored using our website platform (Wix, which hosts data on secure servers, including infrastructure located in the EU and elsewhere) and, for Home Office Test responses specifically, in Google Sheets via a private, authenticated Google Workspace account.

Because our service providers operate internationally, your data may be processed outside South Africa or the EU/UK. Where this happens, we rely on our providers' (Wix's and Google's) own compliance frameworks and standard contractual safeguards for cross-border data transfers.

We keep contact form messages and Home Office Test responses for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your enquiry, deliver your result, and maintain a basic historical record for service improvement, and in any case no longer than 3 years, unless a longer period is required by law (for example, financial records connected to a purchase, which we retain for 5 years in line with South African tax record-keeping requirements). You can ask us to delete your data earlier at any time; see "Your rights" below.

Marketing

We will only send you marketing emails about our services if you have actively opted in (for example, by ticking a box requesting this). Every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can also withdraw consent at any time by emailing us directly.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Our site, built on Wix, uses essential/functional cookies (required for the site to work correctly, for example remembering your cookie preferences), analytics cookies (helping us understand aggregated visitor behaviour, such as which pages are most visited, so we can improve the site), and advertising cookies. On pages that carry advertising, which may include the Home Office Test page, advertising cookies collect information about your visit, such as the content you viewed and information about your browser or device, to show you relevant advertising and measure its performance. We may share limited data of this kind with advertising partners for this purpose, meaning that after visiting our site you may see advertising elsewhere based on your browsing activity here.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time, and you can opt out of personalised advertising generally via services such as youronlinechoices.eu or your browser's/device's ad settings; note that blocking essential cookies may affect how parts of the site function. For general information about cookies, visit allaboutcookies.org.

Your rights

Depending on where you are located, you have some or all of the following rights over your personal data: access (request a copy of the personal data we hold about you); correction/rectification (ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data); deletion/erasure (ask us to delete your data, subject to any legal retention obligations); restriction (ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances); objection (object to our processing of your data, including for direct marketing); withdrawing consent (where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting processing already carried out); and, under GDPR, data portability (request your data in a portable format, where technically feasible).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We aim to respond within one month.

If you are not satisfied with our response, South African residents may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa), and EU/UK residents may lodge a complaint with their local data protection supervisory authority.

Children's privacy

Our website and services are intended for adults and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Our site may contain links to third-party websites (for example, our book's publisher, or partner organisations). This policy applies only to ikigai-corporation.com; please review the privacy policy of any third-party site you visit from a link on our page.

Changes to this policy

We review this policy periodically and will update this page when our practices change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
